The Muralism Crew teamed up with the "Farm Fellows" at Shemesh farms to create mural number 47!
Shemesh Farms was started in 2015 at the Shalom Institute in Malibu, California, with a vision of creating a social enterprise that provides meaningful employment and community to adults who have diverse abilities.
Following the Woolsey Fire in 2019 and the destruction of the Shalom Institute, Shemesh Farms had to move to the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue where a community of Farm Fellows (the Shemesh Farm employees), volunteers, and staff harvest and craft spice blends, honey, and other organic products. However, the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue is going through a remodel and Shemesh Farms will need to move yet again.
So with the leadership of Farm Fellow and Muralism Artist, Tiana Fazio, a design was created to remember the past, cherish the present, and look toward the future. With help from assistant lead, Annie Leffe, Tiana led a team of Farm Fellows using brushes, fingerprints and even elbows to fill the movable panels with color. The partially finished boards were then taken to the Muralism Studio for detailing and a clear coat, before moving one more time for an unveiling and ribbon cutting ceremony at the place where it all started the Shalom Institute in Malibu.
